Carpenters
Carpentry project? Hire a pro
Do you have a project that requires new walls or reconfiguring existing spaces? Carpenters generally have a broad range of skills and experience. Most carpenters have experience with a variety of different building projects including framing, rough carpentry, form building, and exterior finishing. Carpenters can install cabinetry or woodwork, and may have experience in cabinetmaking and design. Some specialize in installing build-ins like library shelves or adding achitectural elements like inglenooks and fireplace surrounds. They may also have background in acoustical installations and drywall, as well as building walkways, decks, and outbuilding construction. Carpentry is a versatile specialty, so finding a contractor for your project is a matter of making a match between your needs and their experience.
Carpenters may belong to a union, but are not required to. Many go through an apprenticeship to attain journeyman status. They may learn not only on the job, but take additional classroom instruction.
Carpenters are often not required to be professionally licensed. Most are serious about their craft and the quality of their work, however, to protect yourself, ask for several different carpenters for estimates and references. While this is always a good practice with any contractor, it´s particularly important with carpenters. Call their references and make sure that they completed those projects to the customer´s satisfaction, on time, and for the agreed upon price.
