Deck Contractors for Repair or Modification

Is your deck ready for an update?

After sitting in the sun and rain year after year, even the best sealers and preventatives wear off and your deck can start to look a little sad. Moreover, problems with dry rot and weathering can be dangerous. A carpenter or deck specialist can repair your deck and make it new again. And they can easily incorporate your ideas for redesign or modifications at the same time.

When you get estimates for work on your deck, deck specialists first inspect and make suggestions to correct problems. Get at least a couple of estimates if the work is extensive.

Inspection entails looking for damage, from popped nails to dryrot and warped or weathered boards. Railings and stairs will be given special attention to make sure they are safe, strong, and secure.

To repair decks, all damaged materials will be repaired if they are salvageable, or removed completely and replaced. Nails can be replaced with galvanized deck screws for additional strength and long-term viability.

If you want modifications made, this is a great time to add a level, wrap a rectangular deck around a corner for a little extra interest, or add accessiblity features. Your decking specialist will be happy to work with you to create a design that will provide many years of enjoyment.

If deck cleaner doesn´t quite do the job, you can use a pressure washer. Keep the tip 4–6 inches away from the deck´s surface and use less than 1000 psi (pounds per square inch). Too close with too much pressure and you could damage the wood. Use short, sweeping motions and move smoothly across the surface to get a consistently clean surface.
